Ex-TcpO₂ in focus: Dr Zagzoog on claudication and revascularisation
In this exclusive video interview for #pvi, Dr Mohammad Zagzoog shares the key insights from the study exploring the association between exercise transcutaneous oxygen pressure (Ex-TcpO₂) results and post-operative outcomes in patients with intermittent claudication (IC).
He explains how Ex-TcpO₂ offers accurate data on walking capacity, symptom onset, and—most importantly—the real-time presence of exercise-induced blood flow impairment in the affected limb.
The study showed that clinical improvement after revascularisation was significantly greater in the Ex-TcpO₂-positive group (97%), while patients with negative results experienced no improvement.
These findings support the use of Ex-TcpO₂ to better assess patients with atypical or unclear claudication, including those with normal ABI or proximal symptoms.
